YOUNG VEILTAILS
Young calico veiltails
Young calico veiltails, shown at BAS 2011 (left) and GSGB 2011 (right). Both are fine fish, but neither has the ideal balance of red and blue colouration as prescribed in the standard. The right-hand fish shows the curling over of the top of the dorsal fin which is hard to avoid with veiltails but which can be achieved, as illustrated below. However, the fine, straight dorsal fin of a young fish will frequently curl over a little with age.
Three very fine young calico veiltails, shown at BAS 2006 (the top two pictures are the same fish).
Note the very fine range and balance of colours and the tall, straight dorsal fin. Bred in 2005; winner of Best-in-Show at BAS 2005 and best of the year's twintails at GSGB 2005. This fish went on to win Best-in-Show as an adult at BAS 2011 and gained an award too at GSGB 2011.

Young veiltails bred in 2003; these fish have a nicely balanced calico colouration and pattern. Shown at BAS 2003.
